Wild Tongmu Lapsang Souchong Unsmoked Black Tea - Sedona Arizona's Full-Leaf Tea Store
In the U.S., Lapsang Souchong is only known as the intentionally and deeply smoked “campfire” black tea. Few know that smoked tea has never been popular in China, especially in the south around Fujian, or even in the north where larger populations have an effect on new taste and trends. In the Wuyi Mountain Scenic Preserve of Fujian Province of south eastern China, where the highly desirable “wolong yancha” rock oolong teas are produced, this UNSMOKED LAPSANG SOUCHONG is a low production/small batch BLACK TEA acquired direct from producer located in the Zheng Yan Circle Mountain area, the highest quality zone where picturesque mountain cliffs, fertile Nine-Bend River and the mineral rich rocky soil is found.  Unlike many other tea-producing areas in China, the tea trees here are not cultivated in the plantation style.  They are allowed to grow naturally wild in spacious groves (making them more difficult to pick), ranging in age from a several years old to more than 100 years old, and elevations around 2500-3200 feet.  Although not certified organic, this growing zone is strictly protected by the government, so absolutely no chemicals or pesticides are used. This unsmoked tea is using both the larger, more mature leaves of the wild “qizhong” MeiZhan, and HuangGuanYin cultivar and the Xiaozhong processing technique, and are the same trees picked for our Wild Tongmu Jin Jun Mei black tea.
